Astro Essentials 1.25" Moon Filter
Astro Essential colour filters for astronomy are most often used to enhance contrast when observing the Moon and planets.
Results depend on seeing conditions, the telescope and the target being observed or photographed but the right filter can make a significant difference when, for example, viewing the lunar surface or teasing detail from Jupiter's weather bands or Saturn's rings.
See our handy guide to colour filters and how they can help improve your lunar and planetary visual observing.
Moon Filter
The Moon can be quite bright especially when gibbous or close to full, producing a lot of glare. This can dazzle the observer making it difficult to see fine detail. This filter reduces the brightness by 18% for more comfortable viewing. It also improves contrast so enhances surface features.
Due to the wavelengths of light passed this filter imparts a slight green tint.
NOTE: Manufactured using optical glass with dyed-in-the-mass colour mounted in a machined metal cell (unlike some truly awful plastic copies available elsewhere).

Astro Essentials 1.25" Moon filter 28 February 2024 | Darren
This moon filter works very well at bringing out that extra bit of detail on the moon, nice price too, Thanks Flo.

I have a moon filter from a well-known astronomy company but needed a second one to have a pair for a binocular view. Fortunately, while making this purchase, I bought two. The two that I purchased are far superior in quality and performance to the one I have and cheaper than the one I have! What a great purchase and saving!

Brilliant service, from FLO, I will continue to do business with then now and hopefully in the future. I haven't had a chance to test the filters yet, due to the clouds that unfortunately escaped while opening.
Helps reduce brightness of Moon 22 September 2021 | Paul
Recommended that I purchase one of these to reduce brightness when viewing the Moon. Once I had figured out that it goes on the inside of the eyepiece I found that it worked well. It might seem simple, but for a long time photographer, it was not initially obvious that the filter needed to be fitted to the inside face of the eyepiece. Very simple instruction would have been reasonable.
