Model: baader_2458416Part Number: 2458416
Baader clear glass filter, 2" mounted, 2mm thick glass. Low profile filter cell (LPFC).
This very useful addition to the Baader filter range is intended for the luminance channel in astro imaging. Using narrowband filters can often result in slightly dimmer images, which can be difficult to resolve to a focus. You can now use this filter to focus perfectly with a bright image and since they are also parfocal, switch to a different narrow band filter without loosing the focus. This filter has the same substrate thickness as the other Baader filters.
Halo and ghost free. Baader balances each dielectric coating stack to avoid the ghosts and annoying halos that plague other manufacturers filters.
TLDR version: filter mounting cell is (unnecessarily) tall and can introduce mechanical issues in specific situations (i.e. installing in narrow filter drawers or wheels).Detailed:I am disappointed with the mechanical quality of this filter. While it functions as expected, the mounting cell appears to be excessively tall. My OSC has a built in UV/IR cut filter and when switching from Dual Narrowband to "No filter" I need to adjust the back-focus between the sensor and coma corrector. To avoid this a clear glass should help with retaining back-focus distance (alternative would be to just use one more UV-IR cut but these tend to be more expensive).I use ZWO filter drawer for my filters but unfortunately this Baader seems to be poorly made: its male M48 is too tight to screw into filter holder more then 1 turn and additionally its mounting cell is quite tall (definitely higher then my other filters). The effect is that ZWO Filter Drawer's filter holder cannot be inserted into the drawer unless the tension screw is completely loosened. Unfortunately this screw is blocked by the coma corrector's distancer ring in my imaging train, preventing adjustments with each filter change. Consequently, I am forced to secure the filter holder in the drawer with tape because the magnets are not stong enough..Also the glass of the filter itself is rattling within the cell so it's either too small for the cell or the cell itself is made tad bit over the specification, hence issues with thread.I am really considering returning this item due to above and going with some more reputable UV/IR Cut, alternatively I'll move the glass itself into another mounting cell (sourced from some cheap CLS filter I already have and don't use ), just to make it usable but frankly I am quite disappointed with Baader on this occasion.
