Discover the Sun in high resolution!
Our remote solar observatory in southern Spain offers impressive, highly detailed views of the Sun in multiple wavelengths. See sunspots, prominences, flares, filaments and other solar features.
During your session, expert Astro-photographer Gary Palmer from Astro Courses UK will take you on a tour of the Sun, exploring the current Solar activity. You then choose an area you wish to image, and Gary will walk you through the steps required to capture your solar data.
He will then guide you through data processing to achieve a finished image. This includes stacking, integrating, sharpening, and colourising your data.
You can, of course, keep the digital images produced during your experience, including the raw video data.
What’s Included

How it Works
Purchase an experience voucher. We will then email you a voucher code and an image you can print or email to the recipient. The purchased voucher is valid for six months and will include details on booking the experience.
Availability
The experience is weather dependent. We need clear, dry conditions to open the roof and image the Sun. Please book your experience on a weekday between 9am - 3pm. We will then advise you close to the time whether weather conditions are suitable.
If, due to weather or technical availability, your experience cannot proceed, we will reschedule. If the weather becomes adverse during your experience, we will extend your experience or reschedule the remaining time.
Once booked, you can reschedule your experience if you provide at least 48 hours notice. Otherwise, your experience voucher might be cancelled without a refund.
Participant Guidelines
The experience, equipment and software used will vary to suit the day's solar activity.
Under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult throughout the experience.
Flexibility
If you are interested in a particular aspect of solar imaging or wish to do something slightly different (e.g. you might be interested in solar animation or imaging the full solar disk instead of high-resolution imaging), we can tailor the experience for you. Please get in touch beforehand to discuss your requirements.

I am a user of smart scopes and Dobsonians so I’m limited in what I can do observing and imaging the Sun.
I was absolutely thrilled to find out about the Solar experience as I knew I would get to see the Sun in detail I would never be able to with my scopes.
What an experience it was, seeing the Sun in all the different wavelengths was just magical, there were some nice little prominences visible on the day of my experience and some beautiful Sunpots too, including a heart shaped one.
Gary explained everything in great detail, taking time to make sure I understood what we were looking at and how the different filters worked. I learnt so much during the session.
I have got loads of files from the day which I will have great fun processing over time. Gary demonstrated how I would go about processing an image which was really helpful to someone like me who has only ever done very basic processing.
Huge thanks to Gary for an excellent session, I highly recommend this experience to anyone with an interest in the Sun.

I've been imaging the Sun through a white light filter for a couple of years now but I've always fancied being able to observe it in Hα to reveal prominences, filaments etc. However the financial cost of adding this capability to my setup is beyond my means. I wasn't sure whether this solar observing experience would fill that gap for me - in fact, it exceeded my hopes and expectations by a wide margin! I got to see live images of the Sun not only at the Hα wavelength but also in Mg, Na and Ca_K light. The stacked images and a couple of .SER video files are on their way to me so I can continue to play. I learnt such a lot - and no chance of forgetting as I was permitted to record the whole Zoom session. Definitely 5* as an experience; I shall be recommending it widely. Thanks for offering this FLO and thanks for running the session so well Gary.
