This Sky-Watcher 0.85x focal reducer/flattener is optimised for the Sky-Watcher Evostar 80ED PRO refractor.
Effectively reduces the telescope’s focal length by a factor of 0.85x to enable imaging at f6.37
Also provides much improved field-edge correction.
Use in conjunction with a DSLR-M48 Ring Adapter.
Can also be used with other similarly specified refractor telescopes when combined with our Astro Essentials Adapter.
Requires 55mm of back focus.
I decided to order the Skywatcher.85 reducer for my Evostar 80ED. First Light Optics has very competitive pricing on Skywatcher products so ordering from the UK made financial sense. The order was placed on September 28th and the product arrived at my Arizona doorstep just 7 days later. The weather finally cleared up and the reducer/flattener is yielding nice round stars across the entire FOV. I’m very happy with the product and highly impressed by the fast service I received. I will definitely look to First light Optics for future purchases.
I expected this to cure the edge distortion I was seeing (even quite far in from the edges it was noticeable) but it still surprised me when I pulled the frames off the camera. An essential purchase on a larger sensor and I suspect a help on medium sized sensors too. There appeared to be an unusual amount of dusty white debris around & on the reducer in its Skywatcher box which was a little disconcerting, but some very gentle air blow and cleaning has got it looking clean and clear.
The flattener perfectly fits on my SkyWatcher ED80 doublet! The images are flat-flat! No stars comma, chromatic aberration or anything related to that. At the moment I'm using it for imaging with a stock Canon EOS T3i/600D and I get the focus without any problem. However, wasn't able to find the focus with a ZWO ASI 120MM mono planetary camera, so I'm looking for some extenders. Correct spacing is critical. I recommend you ask a few questions before you buy this - FLO support team is the best, as always!
