Daystar Solar Scout SS60-ds: "We selected a small sunspot group to view and were able to locate it once the tuning knob had adjusted the wavelength. When tuning, it took 5–10 minutes for the telescope’s LED to turn back to green to show it was again on band. There were some small prominences to view and, with the addition of a 2x Barlow lens, we could see some lovely structural detail in them given the aperture and the low winter sun.Daystar has always had good contrast in their solar products and we were pleased to find that the SS60-ds maintains this, helping to make objects on the surface stand out more.Even though the SS60-ds is a budget solar scope, it is more than capable of producing some nice images for the aperture." The engineers at Daystar offer this premium quality 60mm H-alpha solar telescope with 'double-stack' performance at a remarkably low price!
Please note this is not supplied with a power supply - you will need a USB Micro-B cable and suitable powerbank or wall charger capable of suppling 2A of power.
* Quark component is not interchangeable on SS60ds. Original SS60 telescopes can interchange Quark optical components, but for cost reduction needs, the SS60ds has an all-in-one conjoined construction.
Note: Use of 2" eyepieces or components, and Camera T-adapters require additional, optional accessories.

Great solar scope I know it's a starter telescope but this daystar solarscout is really nicely made it looks and feels top class . Had a few days out with the solarscout and shows great detail I found it works well with my BST 25mm full disc views even had it focused with an BST 18mm . It's hard to focus with my WO binoviewer using the WO 20mm but I can get focus using BST 25mm so may buy a second one and use them in the binoI did mess up I didnt get the bundle as I have loads of power packs but all my star diagonals are 2 inch and this needs a 1.25 diagonal so had to get one Jen the owner of daystar makes sure the wavelength is right at centre position of switch so wingshift towards red or blue side of HA is spot on also FLO check all daystars are right before shipping so chances of a wrong one is remote this is why I was confident to buy a daystar product I teamed this up with the solar quest mount as the HEQ5PRO is overkill for a small light solar scope So if you want a great prices solar telescope at 60mm this is the one to get
Seeing the sun through this is fantastic and when processed the photos they are absolutely amazing.
I have been using the Scout for several days now, and I am pleased with its performance. It certainly shows prominences in gorgeous detail, while surface detail is a bit more elusive. I have seen surface granulation, filaments and spots, especially when I stop the aperture of the telescope down to 30 mm (f31) - this improves the bandpass of the etalon and ups the contrast for surface detail. It has also been quite successful for photography, especially at 30 mm aperture. The time it takes to come to the desired band (5-10 minutes) isn't such a great problem as you can still do some observing during this time. The solar finder is somewhat imprecise, I may upgrade this - but these are thankfully cheap! Definitely one of my better astronomy purchases. Also a big thanks to FLO, who checked the scope before sending it out.
Dear astro friends,at the beginning I want to rate FLO with 5 stars for price, support and fast and reliable service! First in Europe, for sure.Second, some facts about SolarScout scope. It is worth of every penny invested in this little gem.It is much more than introductory advertised Ha telescope! On first look it has beautiful finish, no plastic parts, had full "Made in USA" look.Very easy to focus, and after 10 minutes of warming it produces, sharp, clean, contrast and bright Sun image with prominences, faculas, structure...In 32 mm Ortho EP it produce hole Sun disc with lot of spare sky around disc, and in mine 18 mm EP more detailed view of every Sun detail. This little scope gave us much more than we expected, 2 hours of looking passed as 2 minutes! And at last, despite sticker on box "FLO, may contain clouds" first day after we received scope was clear all day! It was the only thing FLO didn't fulfill! P.S. Sorry for my bad English language, if present, I am still excited...
I purchased mine in spring 2020 and with being a Daystar, I thought it must be something good as my first Hydrogen Alpha views ever were though Daystar systems, so a brand to believe in. However, the price sounded incredibly low, but with the technology advances ... despite of some reports in discussion fori about poor performers, I bought one. The delivery was quick and the instrument looked really fine. I liked the solar finder on it. However, on the sun a big disappointment: An orange disk with no features at all! I tried tuning, changed the battery for the USB heater input, finally used a fixed USB power supply - no avail. An orange disk, no chromosphere detail and no prominences at all. After a week of tuning around and seeing nothing, I returned the instrument. FLO was no bother, and I purchased a Lunt 50 insteat where I am very happy with. Some folks in Germany had the same experience, that the instrument showed hardly any detail on the sun. Apparently the etalon went out of tune, and the adjustment range by the heater does not make up for it. I can reproduce this on my Lunt by severely changing the pressure tuner to get the etalon out of tune, and I get the orange disk with no detail. So my review says 1 star as the instrument was a lemon. Mind, if you get a good one this may be quite a good way to get into hydrogen alpha imaging. Just assure whereever you purchase the instrument that you can test it to assure quality and otherwise return it. FLO was no problem in this instance.
Response:
To reassure customers, we now have all of these checked prior to dispatch so the chance of customers receiving a faulty one are much, much reduced.
I’ve only had this ‘scope for a few weeks now, but despite the limited number of sunny days I’ve managed to enjoy a handful of imaging sessions. For a solar imaging beginner like me there’s a steep learning curve to work through, but the capabilities of this instrument are impressive. Once I‘d spent some time figuring out the optimal settings to use for my particular camera on my image capture software (SharpCap) I can easily view both prominence and surface details, though not simultaneously. Post processing of images using photo editing software has resulted in some very pleasing results. I spent a long time trying to decide whether or not to buy one of these, my only regret is that I didn’t buy one sooner! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this to anyone looking to get into the absorbing world of solar imaging. I’d post a sample image here if I could.
This scope is awesome, gives great views for a reasonable price. The tuning lag of the ethalon isn't that bad, you can still enjoy the view while the filter is getting in tune.I have the Chromosfere version, but the prominences are also clearly visible. The solar "bullit" finder is to smal, i replaced it with a larger one, other than that, great instrument, good fit for my AZGTI mount.
