Optical Bench Test

At FLO, we check all our Askar telescopes on an optical bench before dispatch.

So you can be confident your telescope will have well-figured optics, negligible false colour and spherical aberration, and no astigmatism (the bane of any optical system!). Star shapes will be round, not triangular, oval or egg-shaped!

New & improved V2 Askar FMA180 Pro Astrograph.

This new V2 FMA180 Pro has similar sextuplet air-spaced APO optics, with two pieces of ED glass, as the original model but features a new finder base, 360° rotator and internal focuser.

So, like its predecessor, this new FMA180 Pro is optimised for astrophotography but has integrated functions and a design that makes it more convenient for visual astronomy.

With the multifunctional base (has a finder-shoe and Vixen-type saddle) attached, the FMA180 can be easily mounted onto other telescopes for use as a finderscope or guide-scope.

Supplied with an M48 adapter at the rear.

Back-focus distance is the usual 55mm.

Superb instrument
23 May 2024  |

Unlike a lot of people in the United Kingdom struggling with the weather, I have been blessed with a few clear nights and on one occasion I was able to use this particular scope that had just come through the post. I used it with a duo filter in the Cygnus region and I am over the moon with the picture. Bearing in mind the fact that the nights are so light at the moment, I was able to get a picture full of contrast all from a 40mm lens. It is a source of amusement to me to see this tiny scope on my large mount! The stars were sharp to the corners with no signs of aberration, or coma, or anything else like that, I am very happy indeed and would fully recommend this, as have others already. FLO have been superb as always... Cheers

A Wide Field Astrophotography Marvel
02 February 2024  |

The Askar FMA 180 Pro has been a game-changer for my wide field astrophotography setup. The OTA's construction is robust, and the optics consistently produce pin-sharp stars. I have it paired with the ZWO ASI294MC Pro camera and ZWO 120 mini guide scope, which makes for a hassle-free setup. After six months of use, I'm thoroughly pleased with the build quality and performance. The FMA 180 Pro has become an essential part of my astrophotography gear, delivering stunning results with every capture. I also invested in the ZWO EAF mount which integrates nicely with the OTA and works flawlessly. Highly recommended for those seeking good optics and reliable performance.

Superb little scope for wide field astrophotography
11 April 2023  |

The Askar FMA180 is a lovely piece of kit that is ideal for wide field astrophotography. The scope is very well built, with smooth movement in the focus ring and camera rotator (both of which can be locked to avoid any slippage during use).
Optical quality is excellent- vey sharp stars across the FoV when imaging the Rosette Nebula
It's very easy to connect my ZWO camera & the finder shoe on the top enables an ASIair to be easily fitted. With such a wide field of view, guiding is not essential, although if desired it's easy to slot a double/multi adapter into the finder shoe, which can then hold a guide scope & ASIair.
Overall very pleased with my purchase, which was completed with the usual excellent speedy service from FLO.
