Excellent astro camera-very easy set up.
30 September 2024  |

I bought this camera as I wanted a simple set up to take with me to New Zealand for wide field imaging with a White Cat 52mm I already own. I was lucky enough to be able to test it on the Horse Head nebula combined with my AM5 mount. In NZ I will use it with the SW Star Adventurer GTI.

Prior to using it at night I did a quick focus setup to check the main camera focus and then the guide camera. Both were set up on a pylon about a kilometre away.

Connecting to the AM5 and my iPad was very easy.

When night came around all I had to do was a fine adjust on the main camera focus and use the small focus adjuster on the camera to sharpen the guide camera focus.

What I was not prepared for and was blown away by was the field of view on the Horse Head. The FOV took in Altinak and the second star Alnilam in the belt and as far down as NGC1975.

The guiding was excellent, and it seemed tighter than my previous ASI120MM with a ZWO 30mm guide scope set up. I took about 1.5 hours data in 3 minute subs.

The image I produced using Astro Pixel Pro was very blue..still trying to see what I am doing wrong. But when I ran the same data through Deep Sky Stacker it was correct and easier to adjust.

As for connections. Just two cables, one from the AM5 to power the 2600 and one to the guide port on the mount so the 2600 Air could control the tracking. If I need to add a dew band that is easy as there are three (in total)) 12v input output ports. To gather the data I used a USB thumb drive in one of the 4 USB ports. I could have used the on board memory and then transferred it if I had wanted to.

For those of you that have a Seestar 50 you know it talks to you when you power on and power off. The 2600MC Air does too. It works seamlessly with the ASI firmware and you need to use that to open up the camera with the 1-8 password.

Excellent service from FLO as always.
