About this product

Model:  stellalyra_8_cc
Part Number:  CC8

8" f/12 StellaLyra Classical Cassegrain

This long focal length classical Cassegrain telescope is perfect for observing and imaging smaller targets, such as planets, close-up Lunar, double stars, small nebulae and comets.

A fixed-position primary mirror eliminates the image shift associated with other telescope designs. It also features a 2" dual-speed rotatable Crayford focuser.

Three CNC-machined spacer rings are included that provide flex-free focus extension when required.

Interior knife edge baffles reduce stray light for maximum contrast.

It is fitted with a Losmandy-style dovetail mounting plate on the base and a handy Vixen-style dovetail mounting plate on top for piggybacking accessories.

Very good images
30 September 2024  |

The delivery was exactly as arranged and I was able to use it during a steady evening one week later. It is quite heavy to lift on to a tall mounting and it required collimation which took about 15 minutes careful adjustment of the secondary mirror. Once done it gave very good images of Saturn, M13 and some binary stars. It is very good value for money. 5 stars.

so far so good...
01 April 2022  |

Only one very short night out so far as this one really did get shipped with clouds but even after a short view i am confident this is going to be a good one. It is bigger in the flesh than i imagined but fit and finish is excellent and the tube feels stiff and robust which is encouraging so far as holding collimation goes. It arrived well collimated so far as i can tell checking with a Cheshire and with a star test. I'm super looking forward to putting it through its paces on clear nights to come. I'm not a fan of crayford focusers so that may get an upgrade at some point in the future. The focussed itself is solid and smooth so far as crayfords go.

A fantastic planetary scope
07 August 2021  |

I’ve owned this scope for a week or so now and have had a chance on a couple of nights to image Saturn and Jupiter. The scope itself is solidly built and easy to collimate using a Cheshire collimator. Weight wise the scope operates comfortably on my EQ6-r, balancing well with a camera attached. At F12, exposures are longer (and with a x2 Barlow, longer still) however I easily captured detailed images of both planets and their moons on my first outing.

I have added a Pegasus autofocuser and a Telrad viewfinder to help with finding planets as the FOV is narrow at 2400(ish) mm FL

Overall, I am extremely happy with this purchase and look forward to continued use on the moon once planetary season ends.

So far, very good.
13 July 2021  |

Early days for this 'scope but so far so good. No unpleasant surprises. All seems to be good quality and as described. I have taken a few lunar crater pictures and they have been better than I expected. Focuser works well with good adjustment. Losmandy rail provides better stability on my SkyWatcher AZ-EQ5 with adapter.
