Optical Bench Test
At FLO, we check all our Askar telescopes on an optical bench before dispatch.
So you can be confident your telescope will have well-figured optics, negligible false colour and spherical aberration, and no astigmatism (the bane of any optical system!). Star shapes will be round, not triangular, oval or egg-shaped!
The Askar FRA500 with quintuplet (3+2 lenses) air-spaced, fully multicoated Petzval optics.
The front lens group consists of three lenses, including two pieces of ED glass, for excellent correction of aberrations. The rear group is composed of two air-spaced lenses.
Together, they provide a sharp wide, 55mm imaging circle - much larger than the standard 44mm full-frame image circle - that easily covers sensor sizes up to full-frame.
You don't need to calculate back-focus distance or rummage around for a spacer.
The heavy-duty 3.5" focuser has a 1:10 dual-speed mechanism that provides precise focus adjustment.
It is supplied with high-quality tube rings, a carry handle, and a sturdy Losmandy-type mounting plate.

Built like a tank (in a good way)! 14 July 2023 | Rob
Of all the scopes I've purchased the build quality on the FRA500 blew me away - it's solid, and built like a tank. Nice attention to details too. It's only the 2nd scope I've owned where the stock focuser was good enough to stick with. As is often the case, the included dovetail is too short for imaging use - but that's the only part I've felt the need to upgrade. Not had 1st light yet, but I am very impressed the lack of serious vignetting. With the 0.7x Reducer and a full frame cooled astro cam I am seeing minimal light fall off, and then only in the corner of the frames. That surprised me as the exit port of the reducer is M48 - I added am M54 adapter at that point and the rest of the image train to the sensor is M54. So far so good, next test will be outdoors if we ever get clear skies again. Based on a visual expection and test flats, I'm really not expecting any issues though beyond the usual fiddle of getting the back focus dialled in.

Usual first class deleivery from FLO, arrived with a sticker saying may contain snow, which duly arrived, however so did clear skies. The scope is well made and very easy to set up. Aattaching my ASI183mc pro and eaf was very straight forward, no back focus to worry about. Stars seem to be pin sharp across my images.
