Optical Bench Test
At FLO, we check all our Askar telescopes on an optical bench before dispatch.
So you can be confident your telescope will have well-figured optics, negligible false colour and spherical aberration, and no astigmatism (the bane of any optical system!). Star shapes will be round, not triangular, oval or egg-shaped!
Introducing the new Askar 107 PHQ f/7 Flat Field APO Refractor.
The Askar 107 PHQ is a medium focal ratio Flat Field APO Refractor that features a 4-element optical design for sharp, false colour and aberration-free images.
The focal length of 749mm is ideal for imaging medium to large-sized targets with large sensors and achieving excellent resolution with a decent resolution per pixel when used with most modern sensors. It also ensures the 107 PHQ works very well visually, ensuring this instrument is truly a dual-purpose telescope. The 107 PHQ can be used at high power for lunar and planetary observing and is equipped with a suitable long focal length eyepiece for outstanding views of the milky way and other deep sky targets.
The built-in field flattener ensures a 44mm imaging circle, rendering the 107 PHQ suitable for use with full-format sensors. No additional field flattener is necessary, so the 107PHQ is easy to use with a wide variety of cameras and imaging accessories.
An optional focal reducer will be available later this year (some high-resolution full-frame sensors may reveal slight aberrations at the field edge, particularly when used with the reducer).
The air-spaced triplet objective lens includes two ED elements for outstanding colour correction.
Featuring a high-quality 3.4" Dual Speed Rack and Pinion focuser that is fully rotatable and capable of handling loads up to 8kg. A visual adaptor is also included permitting the use of 2" and 1.25" accessories.
With the visual adapter removed, the focuser tube terminates with an M86x1 thread. The scope also includes four stackable adapters for direct attachment of a wide variety of cameras with standard metric threads.
Includes a set of tube rings, a Vixen-style dovetail and a carry handle with mounting holes for additional accessories.
Also included is a standard Finderscope adaptor enabling the use of many Finderscopes and Finder/Guidescopes and a foam-filled metal carry case.
The 107 PHQ gives excellent overall performance and is a fine choice for anyone wanting a versatile, high-quality astrograph, ideal for use with APS-C and Full Format sensors and a superb visual instrument.

The only disappointing thing with this scope is the weather that came with it - I have only had a couple of hours of reasonably clear weather since it arrived.
The scope itself has a real quality feel to it. It comes very well packed with a good metal case. Everything needed to connect to your dedicated astro cam is also included. The dual speed focuser is exceptionally smooth and very easy to attach an electronic focuser in no time at all. The field is perfectly flat without the need for a flattener which removes the hassle of dealing with back-focus and makes set up for first imaging very easy.
All in all an excellent scope which is worth the price. As always, the help and advice from FLO was excellent.

Very fast delivery. One excellent telescope (mechanically and optically). Tiny, pinpoint stars corner to corner - no problem to cover full frame sensor (maybe more with better adapter than M48 T2), no trace od chromatic aberation. Can only recommend.
