The Cornerstone of Tele Vue's Reputation

Since we introduced our Plössls in 1980, they have won praise and patents, including a patent in Japan. Tele Vue Plössls, designed by Al Nagler, have been a recognized benchmark of performance and value in the class of 50° apparent field of view eyepieces. While the Plössls may be our least expensive eyepiece line, they still enjoy the same care and attention to detail as our most expensive. While it's easy for other manufacturers to vie for the lowest price, Tele Vue continues to believe that quality, performance and consistency will ultimately reward you with the most value for your dollar.

Diffraction limited "on-axis" performance is a given. Using more expensive high-index glasses to reduce astigmatism and lateral color at the field's edge, Tele Vue Plössls deliver sharper images than any other brand of 4 or 5 element "Plössls" or Orthoscopic designs. The faster the focal ratio of your telescope, the greater your visual reward for using Tele Vue eyepieces. Tele Vue Plössls feature full multicoatings for greatest light transmission and contrast. Blackened lens edges and internal anti-reflection threads tweak the last bit of contrast for maximum image detail. The sharper field focuses faint star light into perceptible points and allows those with undriven mounts to gaze longer before repositioning the image.

For a bit more than generic brands, you can own genuine Tele Vue Plössls

Eyepiece Field of View Simulator

8mm / 11mm / 15mm / 20mm / 25mm

The 25mm, 20mm, 15mm, 11mm and 8mm Plössls round out the focal lengths for various observing from deep sky to planetary. They work best with Tele Vue Powermates to effectively double the number of focal lengths in your collection. Far superior to eyepieces usually provided as standard with most instruments.

32mm

The 32mm Plössls, with its larger 50° apparent field, will deliver the same true field as the 40mm but with higher magnification. The 32mm is parfocal with the shorter focal length Plössls.

40mm

In the 1¼" series we included a long eye-relief 40mm focal length in the series with a 43° apparent field. Like the 55mm, its focal plane is at the barrel edge for maximum field in the 1¼" format.

55mm

The 55mm focal length has the largest true field possible for 2" eyepiece holders -3 times the true field area of any 1¼" eyepiece. The focal plane is placed at the end of the barrel to minimise vignetting. Performance with Schmidt-Cassegrains is remarkable since it avoids the image degradation and severe vignetting which occurs when using telecompressors. Long eye-relief and unique adjustable eyeguard for eyeglass wearers.

Tele-vue plossl
24 November 2024  |

I have always used generic plossl eyepieces. This 15 mm plossl is my first eyepiece by tele-vue. I used it in my 4 inch f/11 Helios refractor on a night of good seeing. And was blown away I could easily see the mountains on the moon. FLO sent it quickly via riyal mail for a reasonable postage price. Will definitely be buying more in this range. When I can.

Good quality
17 October 2024  |

I needed an extra 15 mm eyepiece and decided to try this type. The field of view is fairly narrow as expected but the image quality was good. Comparing it with a Vixen SLV eyepiece with a 102 mm Maksutov I was surprised to find that stars seemed in sharper focus with the Televue Plossl. The Vixen eyepiece has a better field of view.

usual tele vue quality, 32mm
20 November 2023  |

I have had this a couple of weeks now, so of course its rained every day I've had off. Used for the first time tonight and I am very happy with it, easily as good as my Delites, same eye relief. Comparing this to my only other plossl, Celestron 25mm, free with a telescope, the difference is night and day, but this was probably six times the price, so its expected.

Eyepiece

Wow, a real pleasure to use this eyepiece. Typical Televue quality, so you know it’s going to be good anyway, and gives excellent views across the whole field of view. Super bright with no colour fringing. As I say, Televue quality and not super expensive.

wide field view
24 April 2023  |

This 55mm Plossl is up to the usual televue standard. The wide view is the best way of imagining that you are actually in space. Terrestrial images are sharp right to the edge of the field of view. I use a televue 85 scope, and the images at X10 are fantastic compared with binoculars. This is not for planetary viewing, but I always like to start with a wide field with visual observing. Star hopping is easy, and because you can see so much, it is much better for learning star patterns. I have a complete range of televue eyepeices, but none as wide as this. Why did'nt I buy one earlier.

TV plossl 11mm
20 November 2022  |

I used to have the full set of TV plossls , but stupidly sold half off them off after thinking zoom eyepieces were the way to g, so now reacquiring them all, I don't need wide views as only look at planets, double stars and bright DSOs,
clear and sharp and less glass and have Japan stamped on the side (should they be in the made in Japan section?), from memory the 32 and 15mm were my favorites, and as we all know FLOs impeccable delivery and customer service.
