Beautiful crusted slice of the Eucrite meteorite NWA2949, an achondritic stony meteorite that originated from the asteroid 4 Vesta.

These make fantastic gifts for astronomers and people interested in space - children and adults alike!

Please note - meteorites are unique and come in different shapes and sizes. We have photographed a number intended to represent the meteorite you receive but the actual meteorite and packaging will differ slightly from those photographed. The price displayed is for a single meteorite. The Storm Trooper is not included ;-)

Achondrites have chemical and physical compositions similar to those of the surface igneous rocks of the major and minor planets. The majority are believed to derive from the asteroid 4 Vesta, others are known to have originated on the Moon, Mars, or in the case of angrites, possibly even Mercury.

7.8% of meteorites are achrondrites.

These meteorites do not contain chondrules, these were erased during the chemical and physical processes of planetary differentiation.

Howardites, Eucrites and Diogenites are grouped as HED meteorites. These types mostly originate on the asteroid Vesta, although other asteroids are known to have generated a number of meteorite types. It is broadly true to say that Eucrites are from the surface layers, Diogenites from sub-surface regions while Howardites seem to be brecciated debris containing both types of material.

NWA2949 is a classic Eucrite meteorite, purchased in Erfoud, Morocco after being found in the Sahara in 2005. The original total known mass was 1,365g.
