Baader AstroSolar™ film
With AstroSolar™, the Sun appears in its real colour - neutral white. Other films and most glass filters produce a cool/blue or warm/orange colour Solar image, thereby cutting part of the spectrum. Especially with an orange sun, it is very hard to see faculae regions which are visible predominantly in the blue wing of the spectrum.
Due to its neutral colour balance, AstroSolar enables the use of various colour (or interference) filters, which allows the observer to concentrate on certain spectral passbands to investigate different layers within the solar 'atmosphere'.
Eye safety
AstroSolar™ is essentially free from pinholes. Since it is coated on both sides, the chance of two pinholes overlapping each other is extremely faint. Pinholes do appear, but to 1 out of 10000 only in optical density 2.5! Baader AstroSolar™ safety film has been approved for eye safety by the National Bureau of Standards in Germany, the PTB. Unlike any other Solar Filter on the market, AstroSolar™ is CE-tested according to EG-Norm 89/686 and EN 169/92 (notified body 0196). All processes connected to this product have been thoroughly tested. Coatings are inspected constantly for consistency to ensure your eye safety!
NOTE: This solar filter is designed only for use with the ZWO SeeStar S50. Do not use it with any other telescope.
IMPORTANT: Never view the Sun without a suitable Solar Filter! Before every use, check that the solar filter fits securely and covers the full telescope aperture. Solar observing is dangerous and can be hazardous to eyesight. Safety is everyone’s responsibility - please read the safety notes supplied with the product carefully.

A very good product which produces very clear images of sunspots and solar features. A great improvement on the standard SeeStar solar filter.

I wanted a white light filter as although the original Seestar is OK, I prefer natural light colour. This filter is well made and it's very reasonably priced.
BAADER FILTER AN IMPROVEMENT OVER THE SEESTAR FILTER. 01 September 2024 | Paul
I bought the Baader filter from FLO to see if it performs better than the version supplied with the Seestar. I take a lot of solar disc record shots with the Seestar, and thought it was worth £25 to find out if I'm using the best option.
The Baader filter is supplied in a case with instructions and the mount is 3D printed to a reasonable standard.
At least one person has reported that the Baader version is too shallow in depth and they thought it was less secure when mounted over the lens. My version at least didn't have this problem, and seemed every bit as secure as the Seestar version.
I was going to test them early in the morning when the seeing is generally better, but it had to wait until well into the afternoon. Storm Lilian was passing through through with severe gusts which had brought down two trees blocking roads not too far away.
The tests took place just after 4pm. I had decided to take twenty pics with each filter in turn, starting with the Baader. I took the pics every couple of seconds or so. There were some pauses to wait for the occassional gust from the departing Lilian to die down.
When back indoors I intended to select the best pic taken with each filter and compare them. In truth, the seeing had been rather constant ( about average for my location) , so there was little difference between all of those taken with the Seestar filter on one hand, and the same for all those taken with the Baader on the other hand.
However, the Baader pics were generally sharper than those with the Seestar. Also the Baader pics showed the surface texture and the faculae near the limb better as well, and there were with some small pores which didn't show up with the Seesrar filter..
CONCLUSION.
If you want the best solar detail, the Baader Solar filter is worth paying the extra for.
Astro Essentials Seestar S50 Baader film 15 August 2024 | Peter
I like to use a Starizona solar finder along with the filter; the Starizona finder is mounted on a 1.7mm thick ring which fits between the solar filter and the front opening of the Seestar.
I recommend that the mounting ring on the Astro Essentials solar filter be extended another 1.7 or 2.0 mm, which would make the fit of the filter into the Seestar more secure when using a solar finder.
Otherwise the filter, which uses Baader film, works well and provides better resolution than the stock filter supplied with the Seestar. I would give this five stars if the mounting ring were extended; otherwise I use blue painters tape to secure the Astro Essentials filter to the Seestar as a precaution to prevent the filter from falling off when the Seestar is pointed at the sun, which would damage the sensor chip.
Response:
The Astro Essentials solar filter is not designed to be used with any other accessories fitted to the front of the SeeStar at the same time.
Without other accessories fitted, it will work just fine.
Top-notch Filter and case assemby!!! 27 July 2024 | Gary
I was wonderfully surprised at the brilliant design of this filter and case. Makes for easy removal out of the case and onto the Seestar without worrying about getting my fingerprints onto the Seestar. The detail this filter brings out is surprisingly better quality than the Seestar's filter....which surprised me. The Baader 5.0 solar filter brings out stunning detail even before I finish processing the image. The final result is quite stunning.

Seestar S50 Baader Solar Filter. 19 July 2024 | Paul
This filter has improved the contrast when looking a Sunspots, compared with the solar filter supplied with the S50.
So although a little expensive, it's well worth purchasing.
First class service from FLO as usual.
