About this product
Model: antlia_solar_3nm_cak
Part Number: 3nm CaK
Antlia Solar Discover 3nm CaK Assembly
The Antlia Solar Discover 3nm CaK is a filter assembly consisting of one set of light reducing filters, designed to maximise the imaging contrast of sun spots, solar surface granulation and other features that are prominent in the CaK 393.3nm line.
An Antlia 3nm Ultra narrow bandpass filter centred on the Calcium II K-Line of 393.3nm is also incorporated. Its high blocking specification of OD5 (0.001%) is intended to reduce most solar heat ingress.
Compared to a solar Herschel Wedge, the Antlia Solar Discover CaK 3nm assembly features a new aluminium tube design.
1.25’’ and 2’’ adapters are included. The filter assembly is manufactured from aircraft grade aluminium and is anodised.
The Filters are incorporated into a fully closed tube to ensure no escape of stray light.
Important Notes
- When you are using a mirror diagonal, the ERF filter must be installed in the correct position for safe operation. Please refer to the installation diagram.
- When you are using a telescope with an aperture above 100mm, it is necessary to use additional light reduction solutions, such as an ERF filter to reduce the telescope aperture for safe operation while using Solar Discover 3nm CaK Filter; without an ERF the Solar Discover 3nm CaK Filter can only used with REFRACTORS up to 100mm aperture.
About Visual Observation
The bandpass of CaK (393.3 nm) is almost invisible to the human eye, hence, the Antlia Solar Discover 3nm CaK assembly is primarily used for solar imaging and not recommended for visual observation due to the difficulty many observers experience in visually seeing the CaK line
In addition, the IR coating range of Antlia products is slightly different from the ISO 12312-2 Standard for Solar Viewers, please see the following chart and refer to ISO 12312-2 Standard for Solar Viewers (https://eclipse.aas.org/eye-safety/iso12312-2).
We do not recommend using the Solar Discover 3nm CaK Filter assembly for visual observation.
Warranty: 3-years
Disassembly of the assembly is prohibited and voids the warranty.
