It allows you to focus the telescope remotely from up to 20m away, without any trailing wires that will always wobble the telescope a little while you are trying to focus.
Extremely simple operation with 8 buttons arranged in 4 rows of 2. All the left buttons turn the focus one way and all the right buttons turn it the other way. The buttons at the top are slowest, down to the fastest ones at the bottom.
The FocusRF is microprocessor controlled and can be configured to use multiple remote units, and you can even adjust the minimum speed that it reaches (this will depend on your power supply or battery, as well as the actual motor you are using).
Power can be provided from a 9V PP3 battery (not included), or an external supply (not provided) which should be between 7V and 13V, 2.1mm tip DC Jack with centre positive.

Great little gadget. The stock one from Skywatcher has the one little (big) problem regarding the battery compartment. This one is build to last.
Great product, great service. Thumbs up

The 4Tronix FocusRF unit is an excellent upgrade of the Sky Watcher remote focus unit allowing hand held focus control away from the mount.

I was very pleased with this purchase to enhance my previous dc focus motor purchase. Its not documented but the range is very impressive. It wotked well from 8m away through a brick cavity wall. Downloaded documents from 4tronix is comprehensive.

Great little addition to my Skywatcher electric focuser. Works well both with a battery and also with my mains supplied 12V. Speed is selected by whichever pair of buttons you select out of a choice of four pairs . The range of the controller is impressive and functions effortlessly. The unit has an On/Off switch which is also a plus, especially if running the unit on battery power.
Brilliant, once I got it going 10 May 2022 | Steve
I bought this controller to replace the hand control unit for the Skywatcher electronic focuser, which I have attached to my Skywatcher Dobsonian.
The standard hand control unit that comes with the electronic focusser was pretty awful in my opinion, not well made, no off switch, very patchy quality, no mains option and the 9v battery was a pain to fit with very delicate wires.
So this RF controller seemed to solve all the problems.
Except at first it didn’t. I could hear it hum so it was on, but no lights showing and not working. “Here we go again with skywatcher electronics” I thought.
Then I read the blog link in the product description and it describes sometimes doing a reset. So I opened the unit and before doing the reset found the daughter board wasn’t properly pushed into the motherboard. A small wiggle and it started working. It’s now working like a dream, fine focus is excellent. I’ve used it 4 times on the moon so far for viewing and imaging and it’s perfect.
Great service from FLO as ever, they offered to replace the unit immediately, but luckily didn’t need to.
If you want to replace the focuser on your skywatcher classic dob to give you fine focus, this unit plus the motorised focuser is a great option. Or you could fit the manual 2 speed focuser from skywatcher.

I recently fitted one of these remote controllers to my 200P and I am very impressed with its performance. Being able to use a 12volt supply it now runs at four different speeds which is a great improvement on the original slow to very slow controller. Well worth the modest price IMO.
