Sky-Watcher SkyMax 127 AZ-Go2 WiFi Maksutov-Cassegrain Telescope

The highly portable Sky-Watcher Skymax-127 AZ-Go2 has integrated WiFi (creates it's own WiFi network, independent of other WiFi or mobile networks), so it can be controlled wirelessly using your Smartphone or Tablet via the free SynScan App for iOS or Android.

After entering your coordinates into the App and following a simple alignment procedure, you can explore the universe using the App’s intuitive touchscreen menu.

The App provides full computerised GO-TO control, enabling the telescope to be automatically slewed to any one of the objects in the App’s extensive database of 10,000+ celestial objects.

The compact but powerful Skymax-127 telescope with 5" objective diameter is ideal for observing double-stars, bright planets and the lunar surface. The multi-coated Maksutov optical system and long focal length provide wonderful views with high image sharpness and contrast.

Sky-Watcher SkyMax 127 AZ-Go2 WiFi Maksutov-Cassegrain Telescope

I bought this as Christmas gift to myself, it’s my first scope so I knew it would be a steep learning process. It arrived in a couple of days, excellent service from First Light Optics.
The kit comes with everything you need to get going, looks and feels very well made, attaching the mount to the tripod and OTA to the mount was an incredibly simple process.
Due to the very heavy cloud cover and fog the uk is experiencing at the moment, I’ve only managed one brief moment of daylight lunar viewing, but it was long enough to align the finder scope with the telescope, again a very simple process. Focusing the telescope was a pleasure, you can feel the build quality, just enough resistance so you don’t wobble the scope. The view I had of our satellite was awe-inspiring, I am a novice but the optics seem first class.
Once you’ve downloaded the app, it pairs with the mount with no trouble at all, controlling the Alt-Az using the directional buttons again simple, unfortunately due to the lack of information in the manual alignment of the mount was a little trickier. The first time I tried it turned the scope upside down, almost causing the viewer to collide with the mount, luckily there is a cancellation button on the app so no harm done, just be observant. After some online research it became apparent that you need to have to OTA horizontally aligned ( you can do this manually before you power the mount, gently and only the Altitude axis, if you try to adjust the Azimuth axis you will break the mount) then the open end of the OTA needs to face north. I’m sure including these details in the instructions wouldn’t be too difficult.
Apart from the lack of information and of course me being an absolute beginner I am very happy with everything in the kit, and looking forward to eventually being able to get outside with it.

127 Maksutov Go To.

This is a great little bundle that I think is underrated. I rekindled my love of astronomy with this scope. The views are sharp and clear with almost apochromatic performance. The go to works well with all the targets being in the FOV of a 25mm plossl eyepiece. Just ensure that you level the tripod as this helps tremendously with accurate tracking. The planetary and lunar views are excellent. This package offers great value and is a good choice all round.

Awful! "input your coordinates and follow the SIMPLE alignment process" - great if you're already into star gazing and know about things like coordinates and you know how to point your telescope at a star that say, may or may not be Mars.

For me though, a complete beginner this is the worst thing I have ever wasted money on. Go through the alignment process and at no point does it ask me for my coordinates. I have to manually point the scope at say Mars, I have no idea where Mars is in the sky! I have to use this ridiculous app to point the telescope anywhere and all I am getting is black! I probably do point at Mars but Mars is so far away that one tap of the scope movement and I've probably gone from one side to the other of Mars, I have no idea but hours put into this stupid thing and I've seen nothing but blackness. I'd love to return it but I'm outside of the 30 days return so probably going to have to take a knock by selling to some other poor sap that thinks this thing will work
