My first Astro Essentials Red Light Torch lasted about 10 years, and had the advantage that you can easily switch from white light to red, and also change the brightness of each of the lights.On the red setting the light is perfect for reading your star map at the telescope, or sketching the view through the eyepiece, without impairment of night vision.My only reservation with this item is the fiddly process of changing the 9V battery, which involves removing three tiny screws and dismantling the torch.

Work just fine and comes with a lanyard long enough to hang around your neck. One thing though, I have no idea how to change the battery or even what battery it takes. There is a battery already installed but the unit screws together with really small Phillips style screws. I need to dig out my 'watch makers' screwdriver set to see if I have one small enough to fit.
