About this product

Model:  baader_psu_2457640
Part Number:  2457640

The Baader Planetarium Outdoor Power Supply 60W provides 5 Amps and 12,5 Volt continuous so is an excellent choice for modern computerised GOTO mounts with power requirements up to 5 Amps including the Skywatcher HEQ5, NEQ6, and EQ8 and Celestron Advanced VX, CGEM DX, CGE Pro and CPC HD Deluxe.

Conventional power supplies with 12V nominal voltage are designed for indoor use. When used outside in the cold the voltage will reduce with temperature and at -10°C the voltage output may reduce to only 10.5 V. This reduction in voltage can cause a mount’s motors to behave in an erratic fashion. Indeed most apparent faults with modern mounts can be traced to an insufficient power supply.

This Baader power supply is designed with modern mounts outdoor use in mind. The two cables connecting the power supply with telescope and wall socket provide a total cable length of 1.7m. This is longer than usual which enables the power supply to reach the ground or tripod accessory tray, not dangle in the air.

Note this power supply has a water resistant casing but should not be used in wet conditions.

Supplied with a UK-type 3-pin plug.

Features:

  • Connection cable with elbowed plug.
  • Protective-disconnect plug reduces the likelihood of damage to the telescope/mount’s power socket.
  • Elbowed hollow plug: ø2,1 x ø5,5 x 12mm.
  • Compact housing.
  • Longer than average cable length.
  • Enclosed housing protects against moisture, designed for outdoor-use.
  • Ample voltage reserve even at low temperatures.
  • Nominal 12 Volt / 5 Ampere  (60 Watt).
  • Input voltage: 100-240V.

The power of real power
06 April 2023  |

After using two substandard power supplies and misery of intermittent outages for my ASIAIR and ZWO533MC, I decided to invest in a high spec power supply and was quickly educated as the error of my previous ways. Spot on voltages and no issues whatsoever. Money definitely well invested.

Great Purchase

Bought this for my HEQ5 when my power bank could not be saved. Really good quality, good length cable, however I would recommend also getting the extension which is sold separately by FLO. Thanks again!

Solid reliable power without the worry of batteries
11 May 2020  |

I've just returned to astronomy after a 5 year hiatus, caused by life and all the stuff in it. As to be expected, my power tank was dead,. I'd also lost the charger. I'd like to say this was an isolated incident, but I've lost many of these over the years.

Mains power was the most obvious option as I only observe from home.

This PSU does what I need. It has good length of cable. This applied to both the connection to the telescope and the connection to the mains. Power is smooth and works well with the EQ-6.

The PSU is well made, solid and moisture proof. The green light on it is a little bright, but you can just flip it over.

Really please - it's not a glamourous accessory, but does the job and most importantly it got me back out under the stars.

Baader 240/12v 5A power supply

Appeared well made and has performed without problems supplying a CPC800. Useful low intensity green light on transformer, allowing visual confirmation that the power supply is on.
