I own a 1200mm Dobsonian 10" f/4.7 and wear glasses for astigmatism. meaning I can’t take them off to observe things through an Eyepiece. Choosing the (Pentax XW 30-R 70° 2" ) Eyepiece must have been one of my best purchases. I can keep the glasses on and see everything in immaculate clean-like views. The Quality is definitely one of the best, if not, The best eyepieces I own. I was hesitant on dropping this much for an eyepiece but was not disappointed. It's also more expensive than an Explore Scientific 80°, as the Pentax is built for very fast scopes down to f4. It's also significantly lighter for its size ( 740g) compared to the ES (1410g). The little sacrifice in FOV made this eyepiece Totally worth it for my scope. would definitely recommend for Newtonian/Dob telescopes. P.s Firstlightoptics did a fantasic job with the packaging. one of the best I've ever encountered via online shopping.
Perfect !
First things first, this eyepiece is absolutely enormous and very heavy, its only achilles heel, my telescope needed rebalancing every time I put it in the diagonal. Quality is outstanding, build quality, fit and finish, is in my opinion the best I have ever come across, no surprise to see made in Japan printed on the eyepiece. The thing that surprised me the most when using it was, it's so wide you can look around in the eyepiece and there is still sky there, I have heard people talk about this but never experienced it myself, very impressive. Overall this product is expensive but worth every penny, I would recommend it to anyone without hesitation.
This is a big, chunky product that oozes quality. It gives a huge viewing field, loads of light and great pin-sharp optics. It's just great!
