Genuine examples of Moldavite.
Moldavite is a beautiful green mineral formed by a meteorite impact probably in Germany about 15-20 million years ago.
Please note - meteorites are unique and come in different shapes and sizes. We have photographed one intended to represent the meteorite you receive but the actual meteorite will differ slightly. The price displayed is for a single meteorite.
Moldavites
The rarest of all the Tektite types is Moldavite. This beautiful green mineral comes predominantly from the Czech Republic. It was probably formed by the impact of the large meteorite or cometary nucleus that formed the Ries Crater in Germany between 15 and 20 million years ago, and, like Libyan Desert Glass, has been highly prized since antiquity.
The green colouration of this impact glass is generated by the presence of iron (Fe) ions, as is the case with some Egyptian Desert Glass.
