About this product

Model:  sw_evolux_62ed
Part Number:  10196

Following the success of their Evostar ED series of doublet refractors, Sky-Watcher has released two new 'Evolux' ED doublet telescopes.

They are designed to appeal to astrophotographers looking for a compact telescope that performs well.

They will also please visual astronomers wanting a portable, widefield, grab-and-go telescope.

The doublet lens assembly includes one ED glass element, a matching Crown lens and Sky-Watcher's proprietary Metallic High-Transmission Coatings (MHTC). Sky-Watcher claim their new MHTC optical coatings are "... the finest photon anti-rejection coatings in their class, optimising light throughput up to 99.5%"!

The 2.4” dual-speed Rack & Pinion Focuser is better-made and more sturdy than the Crayford focuser fitted to Evostar telescopes, and it features an indexed drawtube.

The telescope is supplied in a foam-lined aluminium case with a 45mm dovetail bar, clamshell ring, and adjustable dew shield.

An optional 0.9x two-element focal reducer/field flattener is available, which includes an ED glass lens and adaptor/field rotator. When used with the Evolux 62ED, it results in a four-lens f/5.8 optical system with two ED elements.

Real Neat bit of kit 👌
23 May 2023  |

Really neat bit of astrophotography kit - seems made with a very high quality level and built sturdy as an ox! I personally will use it for astrophotography so will want to get the field flattener/focal reducer, which costs as much as the scope itself, which is annoying, but I suppose when you consider you will have a triplet equivalent of a redcat, which is triple the price, not too bad. I'm hoping to use it as a travel scope, with my camera tripod and startracker mount it all fits into my motorhome without being intrusive enough to even notice. I like the metal case it comes with too. I would like to see more scopes come with storage options for when not in use as most of us have a couple of scopes laying around so safe and neat storage is of real importance. Lovely high quality metal storage case actually with cut out foam inserts to keep the scope tightly packed - you could easily sit or stand on it without damaging the contents. Even looks good 👍 Very happy with this product which with the FF, has to be said is a Redcat killer!

Excellent Sky-Watcher Evolux
09 March 2023  |

First class FLO delivery and packaging as always.

There are lots of small refactors like this to choose from

Scope feels really good quality; like the fact it has 2 finder shoes; and focusser has a good feel.

Found that I could reach focus easily with my 1.25" diagonal; and ASI678.

For visual/Astrophotography use I have found the optics sharp and haven't really noticed any CA.

Nice, compact little scope that I have build into a portable imaging rig.

Very happy customer.

A Quality Small APO Telescope
04 June 2022  |

I have to agree with the 1st reviewer! The build quality is premium heavy, much better then the build quality of my previous scope the Evostar 72ED. Skywatcher have upped their game!

The Evolux 62ED comes with two finderscope shoes, one I can mount my 30mm Guidescope and the other to mount my Mini PC, which means my setup can be neater running smaller cables.

I like the idea of having a Rack & Pinion focuser attached with two locking thumbscrews on either side. The matching flattener/reducer comes with a camera rotator which is of premium quality (which is at additional cost). The dewshield has a nice finish to it with a couple of thumbscrews to hold in place.

The first image I took was of NGC6811, no false colour or blue bloat was noticed. So don't get too hung up if the glass is not specified. It's a premium scope - Especially when both sides of the drawtube reads: Exclusive Design by OL (Lichtenknecker Optics).

Fantastic scope. I much prefer this to my Redcat 51
29 March 2022  |

The build quality is fantastic. Optically very good indeed. Focusing is great and it has two focus locks.

First imaging test was Double Cluster in Perseus. All stars across the image were pin sharp and showed good colour.

II have no problems with autoguiding on my AZ-GTi mount on my portable rig. An excellent telescope.
