About this product

Model:  ikarus_stellarmate_pro_128gb
Part Number:  IKA-850-128GB

StellarMate Pro is an advanced observatory-class astrophotography controller.

It is a powerful command centre compatible with a wide selection of astronomy equipment from different manufacturers.

This version has 128gb of fast SSD Internal memory and 8gb of RAM

Powered by Open Source technology, it provides a complete astrophotography solution and comes preloaded with all the necessary software and drivers to operate astronomical equipment; no additional 3rd party software is required.

In addition to its role as a dedicated astronomical equipment controller, SM Pro offers comprehensive power distribution capabilities. It can power up to four 12V DC devices, two 12V Dew Heaters, and one adjustable voltage output ranging from 3V to 9V. A 12V @ 10A DC regulated power supply (Not included) is required to power all connected devices. The unit ships with a robust high-density XT-60 connector, engineered to withstand currents of up to 60A.

SM Pro is equipped with a built-in GPS/GLONASS receiver that provides highly accurate location and time services necessary for accurate and reliable operations of your equipment, whether you are on the field or in a stationary observatory. Passive GPS and WiFi antennas are optimised to provide high gain even in noisy environments. Reliable communication between SM Pro and your controller (Mobile, Tablet, or PC/Mac) is critical for the unit's operation.

A multi-purpose AUX port is built to support environmental sensors and future accessories, including observatory relay controls. With a dedicated stepper controller capable of commanding up to NMEA 17 stepper motors, you can directly control many focuser stepper motors with SM Pro.

SM Pro provides unparalleled freedom in selecting your favourite platform to control your equipment:

  • Standalone: Since SM Pro is a mini Computer, you can connect it to an external monitor via HDMI cable and connect a mouse/keyboard to use StellarMate OS directly. However, this control method is not recommended since SM Pro is usually mounted on the telescope.
  • Mobile: Operate SM Pro remotely via WiFi using the StellarMate App for Android/iOS. It is highly recommended to run the StellarMate App on modern Tablets/iPads with screen sizes 10” or more to get the best experience. While phones are supported, the SM App is optimised to run on tablets.
  • Windows/Mac/Linux: Use the Ekos astrophotography tool on Windows, MacOS, or Linux. Remotely control StellarMate via WiFi, Local Area Network (LAN) or Wide Area Network (WAN). Ekos supports advanced functionality, including a mosaic planner and scheduler.

Stellarmate Pro 128 Gb
27 June 2024  |

Delivery and packing was excellent which has been my normal experience when ordering from FLO.
Now for the controller itself. If you add the price of the 10A power supply, mounting clamp and temperature sensor it comes in at £749 (at the time of writing) which considering what you get is in my opinion a fair price. There is a steep learning curve involved in using this controller and it is certainly not as easy to use as something like the ASIair range of controllers which is why I have only given it a four star rating. I did have some trouble initially getting an image to appear but to be honest this was due mostly to my inexperience with this system than the controller itself and I was impressed with the quick response from Jasem at Stellermate to my questions. I am still learning the system but I have managed to capture a series of images with it and the more I use it the more I like it, I just wish there was a period of three or four clear nights so I could give it a full functional test. All the tests I have done so far have been when using the Stellaremate App running on my Galaxy tablet, though I did do a quick test using my mobile phone on which I have also installed the App. I have not had any major connectivity problems, but the display on the tablet does freeze from time to time. Overall I like this controller, it just takes a bit of getting used to.

Great Unit
25 May 2024  |

A Great Unit, I've been using Kstars for a few years already, so this is an upgrade to my collection of Kstars/StellarMate devices, I couldn't go back to SGP or NINA,
Kstars does everything in one, planetarium, imaging, platesolving and guiding, and you can use PHD2 for guiding if you like, Polemaster is also Installed in the OS.
I like all the added power features, controlling and powering all my gear from one unit is a bonus, Inbuilt GPS is a nice feature, so no messing with location and time settings.
Runs flawlessly once your all setup, although I've never used the StellarMate app, I've always connected remotely using vnc from a browser on my Laptop.
I may try the StellarMate app from my tablet next time
Plenty of Guides and a good manual on the StellarMate website, and good support on the indilib.org forum where the Devs are regularly available.
I'd have quit this hobby years ago if it wasn't for Kstars
5 stars from me.

Brilliant device - better than the ASIAir?
15 April 2024  |

I've had this for a few months now, and as per some of the other reviews, it's a delight. Granted it is not really designed for those just starting out in astrophotography (where an ASIair is likely better) but for those who (like me!) have built up and equipment base from various non-ZWO manufacturers, it's a joy to use. It's well made, has excellent power management (including dew heaters) and supports almost any equipment compatible with INDI. Connectivity is also superb (6 USB and external WiFi antennas, including GPS, plus ethernet) means for fewer cables and connection boxes. It's a far cry from the Pi4 based Stellarmate I was using, plus various USB hubs and power connection boxes, etc. The only caveat, alluded to before, is that this system does assume a bit of prior knowledge in R-Pi based (and/or Linux/Unix) systems, and there WILL be some tinkering needed. The connection to my AM5 mount, for example, took a bit of time to sort out. But the support folks are excellent and quick to reply - I know of few other manufacturers where one can directly email the developer/coder who actually designed and built the thing (rarther than a sales support team, say). Highly recomended, particulary for the intermediate/experienced astrophotographer who is not afraid to tinker a bit.

Asiair on Steroids The Stellarmate Pro
16 March 2024  |

I bought one of the first units from Firstlight when it appeared on their website. I started out in Astrophotography during lockdown and purchased several telescopes utilising the Asiair. A great peace of kit, works brilliant, I own 3 of them, but moving on in my Astro journey I wanted a product that would work with lots of 3rd party kit, not just ZWO. The Stellermate Pro fills the gap between the Asiair and the Primalucelab Eagle, I also have the Eagle4. By far the Stellermate after extensive testing although naff skies for months here in the UK I am very pleased with the product. Yes it takes a while to configure and set up, I dit have issues with the auto focus routine. But fantastic support from the Stellermate tech team. All issues I had resolved. The one big issue I guess with the Asiair has been its eifi range, yes ways round it, but you won't get it with the Stellermate.vwifi is great, you can purchase around 50 quid a life app that allows you to see, control and view your images in real time. A fab product but not for the Newby. The Asiair is great this product is better but you will need patience to get everthing working. Once you fo, it is in my view the best product out there that will develope with your hobby. Finally having bought lots of gear from firstlight, no complaints..

Amazing device!
04 March 2024  |

This is an amazing device, I used to use Stellarmate OS on my Raspberry Pi 4 and loved the simplicity and ease of use through the dedicated app as well as remotely through VNC or through the web interface. (It’s an ASI Air for any device regardless of manufacturer)!
The StellarMate Pro gave me the power management module that my RPi setup was missing. Long gone are the long power cables for every device, everything is neat and tidy.
I have also managed to make a motorised focuser by installing a simple and inexpensive (£20) NEMA17 motor and connecting it directly to SMPro!
There is no way I am going back to a dedicated astrophotography laptop setup as I had before.
