Askar V Replaceable Objective Lens Telescope (ASKAR-V)
The new Askar V modular telescope has a versatile and innovative design that provides an excellent range of focal lengths, focal ratios and apertures in one highly convenient package.
Two V objective lenses (60mm and 80mm) are included. Also, an adjustable Field Flattener, Focal Reducer and Focal Extender with M48 and M54 adapters and an integrated 2" filter thread. The back focus is the usual 55mm.
The V60 and V80 objectives feature a triplet APO design with two ED glass lenses, so deliver high-quality images with negligible chromatic aberration.
V60 native focal ratio is f/6, and the focal length is 360mm.
V80 native focal ratio is f/6.25, and the focal length is 500mm.
When the reducer is used with the V60 objective lens, the focal length is reduced to 270mm, and the focal ratio is increased to f/4.5. When used with the V80 objective lens, the focal length is reduced to 384mm, and the focal ratio is increased to f/4.8.
The V flattener improves field curvature and edge quality and reduces aberrations. When used with the 60mm objective, the focal length remains 360mm, and the focal ratio is f/6. When used with the 80mm objective lens, the focal length changes to 495mm, and the focal ratio becomes f/6.18.
The V extender is the highlight of the product set and demonstrates Askar's continued innovation. When used with the V60 objective, the focal length is 446mm, and the focal ratio is f/7.43. When used with the V80 objective, the focal length is 600mm, and the focal ratio is f/7.5.
The sturdy focuser is silky-smooth and includes a new scaled 360° rotator, a finder base and 1.25” and 2” adapters for visual astronomy.
The convenient multi-function handle design makes the telescope easy to carry and connects to a vixen-style finder base and accessories.

So, I'm at an age where my existing kit (SkyWatcher EQ6, Astro Systems (Pete Drew and Rob Miller) 10" newtonian) is too heavy and take about an hour to set up and align. This was putting me off observing as it took too long to set up and wasn't doing my back any good so I decided to downsize.
I've gon for an AM5 mount with ASIair and the Askar V as the skies are not so good here in Leeds and my 10" was just washing everything out.
I first saw the AM5 on a YouTube video and it just seemed to fit my needs perfectly - short focal length with a reasonably wide field for deep sky with the reducer and longer focal length for planets with the extenderand dropping the aperture to 60mm.
I am still learning this scope but so far I can say that the quality fit and finish is of the highest quality. Secondly - how can they provide so much precision ground glass at that price point. Everything just works! Great that it comes with a visual back too as a lot of the time I like to just look and soak up the splendour of the night sky.
I've reduced my setup time to 20 minutes and that will decrease as I get more used to it. I'm relatively new to astrophotography but the few images of the moon and venus I have grabbed are superb with the Moon just filling the frame of my ZWO 533MM. Thats with the 60mm objective and the extender fitted.
Sorry that I'm not including lots of technical details but I'm still learning all this.
What I can say is that this is a uperbly crafted instrument that is a joy to own and use.
Thanks FLO for the help and for delivering this so promptly.
Best regard
