New Fully-multi-coated optics
Fully multi-coated lenses serve the essential purpose of maximising the amount of light passing through a lens, thereby prevent flare and ghosting from interfering with your view. PENTAX applies multiple layers of coatings to every surface of every element and prism in the full Sport Optics line-up. These fully-multi-coated optics assure the maximum light transmission resulting in a clear, crisp view of the world.
Protective Lens Coating
All optical surfaces are delicate and must be handled with care to prevent scratching. To add to the durability of the Z- and S-series Water Proof binoculars*, PENTAX has added a protective, nano technology coating that helps deflect water, oil, dust and dirt. This allows PENTAX binoculars to withstand the harshest viewing conditions.
BaK4 prisms
Due to its outstanding refractive index, the BaK4 glass prism found in all PENTAX Sport Optics is highly acclaimed for its perfectly round exit pupil and clear, unvignetted image.
PENTAX Waterproofing
PENTAX waterproof products are fully sealed and purged with laboratory grade nitrogen to provide a fog proof view in the harshest weather conditions. With a JIS Class 6 rating, PENTAX waterproof binoculars can even be submerged in up to 3 feet of water.
Unique Hydrophobic Coating
Water droplets on a lens have a negative influence on the ability of light to enter the objective lens. By using a unique water repellent coating on all outer lenses we make water drops “bead” into small, deformed droplets. The deformed droplets cause less distortion and “slide” more easily off the lens. Your binocular remains fully functional even in rain, snow, fog or condensing breath.
Aspherical lens elements
Edge-to-edge sharpness is a vital element to comfortable viewing. To achieve this, we utilise aspherical lens elements in our eyepieces. This is a specially shaped lens design that reduces aberration to a minimum.
Nitrogen purged
Nitrogen is a chemical element and a colourless, odourless and tasteless gas. It contains very little humidity and is therefore used to “purge” binoculars and spotting scopes of the high humidity air that is part of
our environment. Due to the low humidity factor, nitrogen prevents condensation from forming on the internal lenses of optical instruments during phases of rapid temperature change. Furthermore, because nitrogen is purged into the optical instrument at slightly above atmospheric pressure, dust and other miniscule particles are prevented from entering the housing.
Long eye relief design
The long eye relief offered in all PENTAX Sport Optics allows the viewer to see the entire field of view clearly and effortlessly. This is especially beneficial to eyeglass wearers, and allows viewing for extended periods of time without added eye strain.
Superb impact resistance
The body is made from magnesium, which adds toughness while keeping the binoculars light. In addition, the exterior rubber coating provides the binoculars with superb resistance to shocks and impacts.

Helicoid three-stop eyepiece rings that permit fine adjustment for maximum viewing comfort

I have had some very clear viewing with these Binoculars, they pick out more than I expected, made a stary night magical. Jupiter shows as a disc with some moons as dots., All that you expect with 10 x 50.
The locking focus was a plus.
The only downside is that the eye protector pieces that are too big and fall off.

Having read numerous reviews on ‘good’ binoculars for astronomy, I chose these Pentax 10 x 50’s as a good blend of optics, handling and build quality, but most of all for the good eye relief. Having used them to view the Pleiades and the recent partial eclipse of the moon I’ve not been disappointed. The loose objective lens dust caps and eyepiece covers were a known issue but have been easily rectified with appropriate third party covers. Nevertheless, I believe they still represent good value for money, especially when backed up by First Light Optics excellent service.
Pentax SP 150 WP binoculars 17 September 2023 | Eric
I really liked these binos , easy to hold , gave very good images with almost no chromatic aberrations . Coma was not very obtrusive and didn't start to be noticeable until about 15% from the field edge during night views . Day views you really had to look carefully to find coma . Great for Astronomy and birding .

Excellent binoculars in my opinion because the quality is very good, and the price is very reasonable. If you pay more yes, you can probably get better optics! But these bins are fairly light but very powerful so excellent for stargazing which is my purpose for them. Also, if you wear glasses, as I do, these binoculars will help you enormously.

I bought these for my wife, and we're both very pleased with them. They are a little heavier than my own Olympus 10x50s, but feel nicely built., and they give a very clear and crisp image. My only slight criticism of the binoculars themselves would be the somewhat stiff focusing, but this would be very picky. More annoying is the very loose dust caps, and I would have expected a carrying strap on the case.
The major thing that makes these a total winner for us is the inter-ocular distance. My wife's eyes are a little closer together than mine, and she cannot get along with my bins. Also, the very good eye relief makes them a pleasure to use.
Got the 8's just had to have the 12's 09 November 2020 | Dave
After having the Pentax 8x40 version of the these for astro and birding I decided to give the 12x50 shot. Naturally they're a little more heavy to hold and steady the image but they are a pleasure to use all the same and give that little bit more reach you just can't get with the 8's. I easily picked out the moons of Jupiter the other night and whilst resting on a post had very nice views of Mars and the Moon. really happy with the purchase and FLO delivered practically next day. Excellent service, excellent Binoculars!

Already have the 20x60 which are great for zooming in on specific areas with the small fov which I find ok but also just purchased the 12x 50 which i always carry in rucksack when out n about and really love these for the bright sharp views I get and I can hand hold them no problem I find ,the bins feel very robust and nice in the hand and I especially love the large eye relief as I have astigmatism and combined with the smaller exit pupils the sp series I think are just brilliant
Birdwatching and Beginner Astronomy 28 August 2019 | Ian
These Pentax binoculars have excellent eye relief for glass wearers and those without. They feel very solid in the hand and are simple to adjust. The only negative point is that the lens caps cannot be attached to the binoculars or strap so could easily be lost if not placed somewhere securely.
Excellent customer service and fast delivery from First Light Optics.
