New Fully-multi-coated optics
Fully multi-coated lenses serve the essential purpose of maximising
the amount of light passing through a lens, thereby prevent flare and ghosting from interfering with your view. PENTAX applies multiple layers of coatings to every surface of every element and prism in the full Sport Optics line-up. These fully-multi-coated optics assure the maximum light transmission resulting in a clear, crisp view of the world.
Protective Lens Coating
All optical surfaces are delicate and must be handled with care to prevent scratching. To add to the durability of the Z- and S-series Water Proof binoculars*, PENTAX has added a protective, nano technology coating that helps deflect water, oil, dust and dirt. This allows PENTAX binoculars to withstand the harshest viewing conditions.
BaK4 prisms
Due to its outstanding refractive index, the BaK4 glass prism found in all PENTAX Sport Optics is highly acclaimed for its perfectly round exit pupil and clear, unvignetted image.
PENTAX Waterproofing
PENTAX waterproof products are fully sealed and purged with laboratory grade nitrogen to provide a fog proof view in the harshest weather conditions. With a JIS Class 6 rating, PENTAX waterproof binoculars can even be submerged in up to 3 feet of water.
Unique Hydrophobic Coating
Water droplets on a lens have a negative influence on the ability of light to enter the objective lens. By using a unique water repellent coating on all outer lenses we make water drops “bead” into small, deformed droplets. The deformed droplets cause less distortion and “slide” more easily off the lens. Your binocular remains fully functional even in rain, snow, fog or condensing breath.
Aspherical lens elements
Edge-to-edge sharpness is a vital element to comfortable viewing. To achieve this, we utilise aspherical lens elements in our eyepieces. This is a specially shaped lens design that reduces aberration to a minimum.
Nitrogen purged
Nitrogen is a chemical element and a colourless, odourless and tasteless gas. It contains very little humidity and is therefore used to “purge” binoculars and spotting scopes of the high humidity air that is part of
our environment. Due to the low humidity factor, nitrogen prevents condensation from forming on the internal lenses of optical instruments during phases of rapid temperature change. Furthermore, because nitrogen is purged into the optical instrument at slightly above atmospheric pressure, dust and other miniscule particles are prevented from entering the housing.
Long eye relief design
The long eye relief offered in all PENTAX Sport Optics allows the viewer to see the entire field of view clearly and effortlessly. This is especially beneficial to eyeglass wearers, and allows viewing for extended periods of time without added eye strain.
Superb impact resistance
The body is made from magnesium, which adds toughness while keeping the binoculars light. In addition, the exterior rubber coating provides the binoculars with superb resistance to shocks and impacts.

Helicoid three-stop eyepiece rings that permit fine adjustment for maximum viewing comfort

Bought these binoculars primarily for astronomy and I have been really pleased with them. I already own a pair of Opticron 15x70 but wanted more magnification and I was willing to sacrifice some FOV. The image is sharp and clear across the majority of the field and it’s a delight to view the brighter targets with only a trace of CA on the moon etc. The casing is well finished with the focuser being smooth throughout. Tons of eye relief to play with if needed. Smooth twist up eye cups that are comfortable. Throw in a focuser lock and you have a very well made and thought out pair of binoculars. Great value for the money
Lovely binocular from Pentax 18 May 2020 | Graham
I wanted a lightweight but high magnification binocular for general use. The S Series 20x60 WP from Pentax are extremely good. Better than I thought they would be and then some!
The optics are very high quality and are super sharp to the edge of field. CA on axis is very minimal and only on very bright objects - Moon, Jupiter.
The 2.2 degree field of view is narrow-ish but totally fine, as all of it is a quality , sharply focused view- as opposed to, say, 70% of a wider quoted field in another binocular.
They have a great focus lock and the action of the focus control is reasonably stiff but in a good way.
They are light and can be hand-held for short periods but it is not really the weight, it’s the high magnification that amplifies every vibration into the image. You need to mount this binocular, really.
It works beautifully with my Manfrotto 055 camera tripod and Manfrotto XPro-2W Fluid Head.
The case is pretty poor, so you will need to replace that to keep the bins safe. The eyepiece rain-cover is useless so you will have to get some 48-50mm diameter fit, replacement caps. The Objective lens covers do come off if you keep them in the case without the poly bag cover around them and are OK, once away from the case. No lens cloth is included.
Eye relief is huge and you can get the whole field easily on the mid click-stop eyeguard setting, whilst wearing glasses. There will be some blackouts at first, but set the IPD first and then the eyeguard position- I suggest mid click-stop position for glasses wearers and fully out for those blessed with good sight- and it will settle down quickly.
Lovely binocular on the moon- super sharp rilles and craters. Jupiter shows a decent sized disc for bins and the Jovian moons as tack-sharp point sources of brilliant white light.
Saturn shows a distinct ring disc as opposed to the ‘ears’ or ‘oval-shape’ description given to lower magnification renditions of her.
Venus before sunset (be careful) showed a stunning super-clear white crescent against the blue sky and no CA!
Can highly recommend these binoculars and have given them 5 stars, despite the annoyances of the case and eyepiece caps. You buy binoculars for the optics, not the extras and these optics are very good indeed! 😊
Excellent astronomy binoculars 07 March 2020 | Gary
I purchased these specifically after reading some good reviews online, as I wanted some binoculars to start viewing the stars and moon again. They are usable handheld, although being 20x, they do benefit from some sort of support/mount (I use a monopod).
Superb clarity and flat field and show more than enough field of view for my needs.
This was my first order from FLO, and they arrived very quickly, excellently packed. I have since ordered quite a few items from them, all have been exactly as described and delivered very quickly. Thank you for excellent service.
A good alternative to a spotting scope 14 August 2019 | David
I am a bird watcher and I bought these as an alternative to a spotting scope. And I am very happy with this decision. Comfier viewing as you are using both eyes, for small periods of time can be hand held, easy to focus and not so heavy. I do not find the narrow FoV a big issue, I can quickly pick up the target. Optically I think they are very good considering the cost and the build quality is also good.

Really do like these binoculars as I do fishing, cycling ,hiking etc and although they are a bit heavy and bulky i will often pack in rucksack for the superb views i can get when out n about even with the quite narrow fov which I find worth it for the sharp close ups
