About this product
Model: zwo_asi174mm_mini
Part Number: ZWO ASI174MINI
Compatible with the new ZWO ASiair
The ZWO ASI174MM Mono imaging camera features Sony's Exmor IMX174 2.35MP CMOS sensor with Pregius global shutter technology is an excellent choice for lunar, planetary and solar imaging!
"This is a fantastic all-round camera capable of imaging Solar System objects as well as deep-sky targets. Its forte is producing spectacular, large-area captures of bright objects such as the Sun and Moon. Although other cameras from ZWO themselves, have encroached on this capability, the amazing frame rate offered by the ASI174MM makes it a first-class performer for this sort of application." Pete Lawrence writing for 'BBC Sky at Night' magazine Aug 2015.
The ZWO ASI174MM is such a good all-rounder it seems unfair to mention it’s one weakness: When used for deep sky imaging amp glow becomes apparent on one side of the frame and increases with longer exposure times. Dark frame subtraction can remove it but it isn’t ideal.
Deep sky imaging aside, the ASI174MM is a true diamond with nice large pixels that suit most telescopes and applications.
Sony IMX174 CMOS Sensor Features
- The Sony IMX174 Mono CMOS sensor separates the ASI174MM from previous ASI models. It's 1/1.2” sensor with 5.86µm pixels in a 1936 x 1216 array is very well suited to high quality solar, lunar, and planetary imaging.
- Pregius Global Shutter function with analog memory scans all pixels simultaneously. The Sony IMX174’s global shutter function improves image quality by making sure images of moving objects avoid focal plane distortion. This is especially helpful when performing solar or lunar imaging. Bad seeing, wind, or movement can alter the image if the readout speed is not quick enough (< 30fps).
- Sony Exmor technology uses column-parallel A/D conversion for high speed processing, low noise, and low power dissipation.
- ROI, or Region of Interest Mode lets you capture up to 16 areas inside the effective pixels. This ability allows for even higher frame rates.
- High speed imaging with a max of 164.5 fps at 10 bit ADC, and max of 128.2 fps at 12 bit ADC
ZWO Mini Camera Body
Compared to the standard ASI174MM camera the ASI174MM Mini is considerably smaller and lighter enabling it to fit directly into a 1.25" focuser so it can reach focus with an eyepiece positioned at the same position.
All ZWO cameras include a 2-year warranty.
Camera Field of View Simulator
Astrophotography Performance
The ASI174MM Mini camera offers good performance for planetary and lunar imaging as well as guiding with low read noise, high dynamic range, QW peak of 77% and an AR protective window.

USB2.0 Port & ST4 Port
USB2.0 Port: Mini cameras have one USB2.0 type C port. Type C port is very popular among mobile phones, it doesn't matter which way up it is inserted.
ST4 Port: Can connect the camera directly to the auto guide port of the mount.

I recently bought this camera as a guide camera and I can honestly say that it’s a super sharp camera. The 120mm mini is good, but this camera is next level. My focus and stars with Off Axis guide has definitely made all the difference for my guiding. Highly recommend. As always the sale and shipping by FLO was great. I received my order quickly and well packaged. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

I brought this camera as an upgrade for my ASI 120 MM that I had been using for off-axis guiding for my Alpy 600. With the 120, I had experienced issues with plate solving but the larger sensor size on the 174 means that those problems have disappeared. Job done!
First class service once again from FLO!
A must for off axis guiding. 22 January 2021 | Nigel
I had been using the ZWO ASI 120MM Mini with my OAG, but somtimes found it difficult to find a guide star. Upgrading to the 174 gives me access to all the stars visible to the OAG, due to its bigger chip.
Expensive but worth every penny for great guiding.
