About this product
Model: zwo_asi533mc-pro
Part Number: ZWO ASI533MC-P
Features Sony's highly sensitive 9MP IMX533 sensor, 2-stage TEC cooling and no Amp Glow!
The ASI533MC PRO features SONY’s latest back-illuminated IMX533 sensor, with a square (15.97mm diagonal) 9.07MP sensor that is ideal for astronomical photography needs and can be considered as the newest iteration of the venerable ASI183MC Pro.
As you would expect, this latest generation camera not only retains key features of the ASI183 series, such as an attractive QE figure and high frame rate, along with other excellent characteristics of the ASI183 cameras but also now includes new and improved features, such as zero amp glow, extreme low readout noise (as low as 1.0e), 3.76 microns pixel size and an improved 2 stage TEC cooler giving enhanced cooling capabilities.
The IMX533 is a 9MP CMOS image sensor with a square format and 3.76 um pixel size, capable of producing frames at 20 frames/sec in 14-bit mode.
Read-out noise is as low as 1.0e, making it comparable to SCMOS or EMCCD sensors and highly suitable for high-definition, low-noise imaging.
All ZWO cameras include a 2-year warranty.

IMX533 backlit sensor
Sony’s back-illuminated CMOS image sensor improves sensitivity and noise reduction – the key factors to enhancing image quality, while radically realigning their fundamental pixel structure from front-illumination to back-illumination. It has retained the advantages of CMOS image sensors, such as low power consumption and high-speed operation.
With a conventional front-illumination structure, the metal wiring and transistors on the silicon substrate surface that form the sensor’s light-sensitive area (photo-diode) impede photon gathering carried out by the on-chip lens. A back-illuminated structure minimises the degradation of sensitivity to optical angle response while also increasing the amount of light that enters each pixel due to the lack of obstacles, such as metal wiring and transistors that have been moved to the reverse of the silicon substrate.
Sony has newly developed a unique photo-diode structure and on-chip lens optimised for back-illuminated structures, that achieves a higher sensitivity and a lower random noise without light by reducing noise, dark current and defect pixels compared to the conventional front-illuminated structure.
DDR Memory Buffer
ZWO Pro cameras feature a 256MB DDR3 memory buffer to enable data transfer stability and reduced amp-glow caused by the slow data transfer speed when using a USB 2.0 port.

Camera Performance
Low read-out noise, high dynamic range.
QE Curve
We suppose the QE peak value is more than 80%.
Zero Amp Glow
Traditional CMOS sensors produce a weak infrared light source during operation, often seen in the corner of uncalibrated images as the telltale signs of ‘amp glow’. As the ASI533MC PRO uses zero amp glow circuitry, you won’t have to worry about amp glow even when using high gain, long exposure imaging.

There was a bit of waiting time because it was on back order. Excellent customer service from FLO who went out of their way to ship this sooner.
There is a but of a learning curve if this is your first cooled camera. Make sure tou order an IR/UV filter with it at the very least. No hot or cold pixels, works very well. The only thing to note is that it doesn't come with the PSU, so you'll need to pick one up. The ZWO one is quite expensive, but there are many others available on Amazon for far less.

Purchased this to replace my mirrorless camera and start EAA. Finally had a clear night to test it. Fantastic images of M33. Could even see it on a single 15 second sub. Very pleased with it and highly recommended. FLO fantastic as always.

The ZWO ASI533MC PRO camera arrived within 24 hours of ordering and was well packed. The camera looks like a nice piece of kit and a quality build but I've not been able to use use it yet because of our great British weather. I've still given 5 stars for FLOs good work.

Great service from the guys and rapid delivery (next day).
Being an Englishman there has been no clear nights to use my new camera so what this space.
Many thanks FLO.

As always, exemplary service from FLO, and Dave on the emails. The expected delivery date was bettered by two weeks! The camera itself is excellent; still getting to grips with it. Very different to my DSLRs!
bringing me into the 21sr century 24 September 2023 | Michael
I received my WZO ASI 533mc pro cooled colour camera within two days of ordering
well wrapped up and safely delivered by pure luck the skies cleared up that night
allowing some test shots and was I blown away . The first object visited was M31
beautiful lost for words then off we went into Cygnus ending up with M33 here I was
seeing objects that I knew but had only seen in Astronomy Magazines . Thank you
for all your help with this and in the past

Just had my asi 533mc-pro delivered ,i would just like to thank FLO for the good service and packaging great stuff, now just got to use it weather permitting. R.madley
Superb upgrade from a DSLR 24 June 2023 | Arran
I got this to replace my old Canon DSLR and have been even more impressed than i was expecting. On my first night, single subs have given me noticeably better results than stacked and calibrated DSLR frames and the lack of noise in the signal makes processing a real breeze. If you are considering this as an upgrade from a DSLR, dont think twice, just buy one now!
Good camera, but the sensor size is too small for a lot of targets 15 November 2022 | Andrew
I tried this camera on three targets the Soul Nebula IC1848 at a focal length of 360mm, M31 Andromeda at a focal length of 650mm and M33 Triangulum at 650mm as well. I found the camera sensor performance to be good. However the sensor size and shape cropped the objects. Although I did use online framing calculators to see that the objects where OK in frame, the sensor size is rather small. This means that you have to pay very close attention to the camera orientation and your telescope focal length to ensure the images are not too cropped. For small targets its really good but for large targets you will need a short focal length or work on mosaics, which with UK weather is quite a challenge. The software connected first time, not problems. I only hand one issue where the camera didn't cool, but a restart of the camera and it came good. The image quality is good. It's not outstanding, but it is very good. I returned my camera because the sensor size is small and limiting.

A quality item that is well made and looks good. Time will tell how it performs, as due to poor weather conditions, I’ve not used it yet. I took a month of fully researching this and the 294MC Pro to finally decide on the 533MC Pro.I have high expectations that will hopefully be rewarded with good images when the weather improves. The square sensor is likely not to be to everyone’s liking, but there are trade-offs, advantages and disadvantages to be considered before making a final decision to purchase. I went with the 533MC Pro because it best suits a number of my telescopes, as well as zero amp glow, well depth, read noise etc. As usual, great service from FLO.
