About this product

Model:  atik_efw2_filter_wheel-1
Part Number:  ATK0177

New upgraded version.

An upgrade on it's predecessor, The Atik EFW2.2 features a new mechanical location system for indexing the filter. This ensures that filters are always in precisely the same position which is of great benefit for flat field framing. Ensuring that flat field frames display exactly the same optical characteristics is essential to ensure that anomalies such as dust can be handled and removed accurately.

The build quality and solidity of the new Atik EFW2.2 motorized USB filter wheel is very impressive! The case is milled from a solid aluminium block, the filter disk is sturdy and the motor selected for long-term reliability.

Atik EFW2 & OAG Review

With exchangeable filter disks and large 54mm apertures on both sides the EFW2 can easily support sensors up to full frame (35mm) format. Atik cameras screw flush onto the wheel and will rotate without an additional adapter (adapter required for Atik-11000). Total extra backfocus required is only 22mm.

Initial filter disk options include 5x2” mounted, 7x36mm and 9x1.25” mounted. On the software side, the EFW2 has an ASCOM compliant driver so any compliant software can control it. Additionally, the EFW2 will work with Atik's own Artemis Capture software for easy, simple and efficient operation.

UPDATE: Following the comments offered in the product review below Atik have made available a low profile (adds only 1.3mm to the distance) M54 to M42 T male-female adapter which enables the Atik EFW2 filter wheel to be fitted to a male T-thread.

Great Wheel
06 June 2019  |

Just received it after almost three month fighting with ZWO EFW garbage.
The wheel works perfectly, filter position accuracy is ideal.
Simply joy to use.

Thanks to FLO team for fast email responses and shipping.
Keep up the good service!

Pretty good, but...
19 September 2011  |

I purchased this wheel as I have two Atik cameras and use the Atik software for captures and sequencing etc.

The build quality is very good and the filters stop dead centre time and time again so that's pretty good.

But, the wheel comes supplied with a 2" nosepiece at the front and a T-Thread connection at the rear. For this price I would have liked to see a T-Thread adapter for the front included rather than as an optional extra and despite the comments regarding all Atik cameras fit directly and suitable for full frame cameras etc. the Atik 11000 full frame camera requires yet another optional adapter at the rear. This again should be supplied. There isn't even an option to purchase one from FLO and I had to go to Ian King. So if you have a full frame M54 camera, please be prepared for the fact you will not get it to connect without getting yet another adapter.

I have also had some software issues with 64bit Windows 7 but this hasn't been a show stopper and I have been working through Atik Support to get a resolution.

If the adapters had been included and the software had just worked for all versions of Windows out of the box then this would easily have got a 5 star rating.

Response: Fair comment Stuart, we'll edit the product description and source a suitable adapter

Simplicity itself
25 August 2011  |

I bought the EFW2 with 2" filters to use with a Newt initially, and for my first attempt at RGB imaging, the whole process was a doddle. The EFW2 with Artemis Capture means you have to work at it to get it wrong - If only I could sort out my light pollution so easily! The only issue I have had was in subsequently trying to couple it to my Baader MPCC (essential for the chip size in the 383L with a Newt), though I did find a solution eventually (I'll get to try it when these interminable clouds roll away to see if the spacings are correct). It really is great when something just works exactly as it is meant to.

Almost perfect
17 June 2011  |

After much deliberation I took the plunge and purchased the EFW2.
To say that it is simple is an understatement. I use Atiks own Artemis Capture for my imaging and the inclusion of the filter wheel into the sequencer is childs play. I have had a few sessions with this kit and it has performed perfectly.
I would have scored five for this bar for one problem I have.
I bought the version for 1.25 filters and it comes with a 2" nosepiece, none of my scopes have fittings for a 2" nosepiece therefore I had to borrow an adapter to be able to use the wheel, would be nice for Atik to supply or at least tell you what sort of adapter you may need.
Apart from that one problem this is one excellent piece of kit, allowing me to stay warm inside on the coldest of nights once my imaging session is running.
