Model: adm_dual_eq6-r_pro_xlPart Number: DUAL-EQ6R-PRO-XL
The DUAL-EQ6-RPRO-XL is based on the popular DUAL-CGEM saddle. The collar was redesigned to fit the Skywatcher EQ6R-Pro.
Accepts both D Series and V Series dovetail bars.
Split clamp design grips the dovetail bar along the entire surface of the saddle and will not dent or scratch the dovetail bar. Features two large locking hand knobs for tool free operation, spring loaded jaws, anodised Aluminium and stainless steel construction.
The saddle is very nicely made and is easy to fit. It is longer than the original saddle giving a more secure hold for the scope.
I was having trouble moving the scope in the mount, it was suggested getting this would help and it really has, smooth as anything to move.Well pricey but I can move the telescope in the puck easily now so it was well worth it
Usual spot on service from FLO, saddle is very well manufactured no problems in fitting, nice large clamp area holds the plate nice and square and level, large clamp tightening knobs.Overall very pleased, just one issue you may need to put a drop of oil on the threads as they are a little squeaky and sometimes bind.
A few came in stock so I ordered one. When it arrived it was heavily scratched which was annoying given the cost but wouldn’t affect it’s performance. What DID was the fact that one of the wholes for the screws was 3-4mm off-centre making it impossible to screw the item to the mount. This is really poor quality control and workmanship on ADM’s part.I have emailed FLO and hope they will offer a solution given the item is out of stock again.Ordering and speed of dispatch/delivery from FLO was great as always.
I bought this at the same time of purchasing my Skywatcher EQ6-R mount. I read a number of discussions on forums where people were complaining that the saddle provided with the EQ6-R was not up to the job. The smooth powder coated finish was not gripping the dovetail of the telescope well and some people even mentioned that their telescopes slipped out completely! The fact that there is a big ole gap in the middle doesn't help either. I decided that this was a small price to pay in ways of "insurance" for holding my telescope in place.Replacement of the saddle is pretty straight forward, although I found that one of the threads on my brand new EQ6-R weren't well tapped so I did struggle with attaching the third screw. It eventually got in and my saddle was nice and secure. This saddle has a lovely anodised finish, complete with green knobs to match Skywatcher's colour scheme. The larger green knobs give you more purchase when opening and closing the jaws. This saddle plate holds smaller rails like the vixen rail of my WO RedCat51 and larger losmandy plates with ease. The locking Jaws are square (so the dovetail isn't lop sided like some saddles) with a slight taper towards the mouth which makes feeding dovetails into the jaws easy. I've loaded it with a hefty 120mm refractor and with all things attached, must be around 10-12kg in weight. It's held the assembly securely and hasn't failed once.I've added some small alignment marks with a sharpie to help speed up balancing when setting up. These marks are easily removed from a smooth powder coated finish but do not wipe off so easily on this anodised finish, which is great for me as I don't want them to come off easily! A bit of IPA does the job though.
This is the saddle Sky-Watcher SHOULD have made for such a great mount. The stock, painted saddle has an inexplicable gap in the middle and doesn't align well side-to-side. It's always a little iffy holding or especially adjusting heavy loads. The ADM replacement is looks and feels great to use in comparison. The jaws are aligned well lock your scope in place.
