More Blue Precision Focuser Retrofit Kit for Takahashi Telescopes
This is the retrofit kit for Takahashi telescopes, which gives users finer focusing.
Beautiful engineering and super smooth. Looks awesome, but that is secondary to functionality, and it functions flawlessly. Lots of people seem to choose this because it is cheaper than the Tak’ one. I chose it because I thought that it looked nicer and had finer gear reduction.
Pro's: cheaper (by about £50?) than the MEF-3, easy to fit and the 12:1 ratio works very well.Con's: heavy, if you are installing it on an FOA-60 or FS-60/Q you will probably need some form of counter balance, that's the option I'm looking into anyway. On a larger scope say FS-78 onewards I don't think the weight will be too much of an issue. The coarse motion is quite stiff compared to the stock Takahashi focuser (I've not tried a MEF-3 retro fit so I can't comment on that) but if the stock focuser is quite loose as it is my FS-60Q then it has helped firm that up. All in all though I'm happy with the purchase.
This 12:1 fine focuser is a great replacement for your standard Takahashi focus knob. I considered the Takahashi MEF3 fine focus knob but I was put off by the much higher price. The only thing I didn't like was the mounting bar. It is too flimsy for this application...it is not ridged enough. I would up making a heavier mounting bar out of mild steel and this More Blue fine focus knob is very smooth and precise. My FOA-60Q is complete now.
