About this product

Model:  BaaderHypAsp-1
Part Number:  2454631

Baader's new Super-wide 72 degrees 2" eyepieces feature Phantom-group multi-coating, internal baffling and aspheric elements for a remarkably high level of optical correction.

Light rays entering at the edges of conventional spherical lens elements converge at slightly different focal points to light rays entering from the centre. This is known as spherical aberration.  An aspheric lens has a non-spherical surface to converge central and peripheral light rays to a single focal point for uniform sharpness and clarity.

Both eyepieces offer a dual barrel configuration: The standard 2” barrel provides the full 72º field of view, and a special wide-field 1¼” barrel with a field stop of 1.18” (30mm) will extract the maximum field possible from 1.25” telescopes.

Baader have also been clever in that the 2" barrel is fitted via 24tpi SCT threads, which allows direct connection to the rear cell of popular SCT telescopes.

Baader eyepiece

Ive no experience with other UWA eyepieces, but to my eye this one produces good images over a wide field. The unique design means that weight ,size, and price are kept low. I looked at the Beehive star cluster last night which fills the field of view on my scope. The stars were well focussed with only slight distortion (coma) at the edge. I took off one star rating as the rubber eyecups are flimsy and inadequate. The shielded one simply comes loose when used .As the image depends quite critically on the eye position a more robust eyecup would be more appropriate (Ive made my own support from a cut down loo roll which works quite well....).

solid eyepiece

This is a brilliant addition to my toybox providing the nice widefield view I was after. Just to add cream on top, the eyepiece has a thread which allows direct connection with an adapter to a dslr "T" ring for eyepiece projection.

36mm Baader Hyperion Aspheric

This eyepiece is great. It is the widest and sharpest eyepiece I have in my collection so far. It is also great together with the Daystar Quark!

Aspheric 31mm

I bought this lens (31mm) at the end of last winter from FLO - the only negative comment I have about it is it has made most of the rest of my lens redundant on some nights viewing as its the only one I use. I do have some regrets in the purchases I've made since I started this hobby - the 31mm Aspheric is definitely not one of them. Don't hesitate if your looking for a wide field e/p to complete your collection its a great bit of kit

Hyperion 36mm
30 May 2011  |

I purchased the 36mm Hyperion around 6 months ago and i am very happy with it, i have had a chance to compare the views with some of the other eyepieces in this price bracket and the Hyperion in all cases produced a bright and pleasing image, it is comfortable with the pull up eyepiece cup and have a large flat ocular. I would certainly recommend this eyepiece for wide field viewing.

The optional 1.25" or 2" fitting is really useful and the eyepieces come in a nice pouch.
